Counselling FAQs

DO YOU SEE CLIENTS IN PERSON?

Yes, I see clients in person on Wednesdays from 9:30 am - 3:00 pm in East Vancouver, located in the Il Mercato Building, 202-1651 Commercial Drive.

A consultation call is an opportunity for you and me to get a sense of each other. You are welcome to speak about what has led you to reach out and ask questions about the counselling process. It is important to me that you feel that we are a good fit – comfortable and safe enough to do the counselling work together. Consultations are approximately 20 minutes long and held through video on a secure platform (e.g. Jane App or Zoom).

WHAT HAPPENS IN A FREE VIDEO CONSULTATION CALL?

HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR THE FIRST SESSION?

For virtual sessions, please ensure that you have a stable internet connection and are situated in a comfortable, safe, and private space.

DO YOU OFFER A REDUCED RATE?

Reduced rate sessions are available to those experiencing financial insecurity. They are limited to five sessions per client. Priority is given to single parents, newcomers to Canada, and BIPOC individuals. There may be a waitlist. Please reach out for more information.

ARE SESSIONS COVERED BY EXTENDED HEALTH?

Counselling by a registered clinical counsellor (RCC) is generally covered by most extended health plans, but please confirm with your insurer.

DO YOU OFFER DIRECT BILLING?

Receipts are issued for manual submission to your insurer. I do not currently offer direct billing.

HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL I NEED AND HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE?

Change happens at a different pace for everyone, and the process in which it takes place is as unique as the individual. Depending on the issue and need, sessions typically begin bi-weekly. Please keep in mind that good therapy takes time.

WHAT HAPPENS IF WE ARE NOT A GOOD FIT?

No worries at all. It sometimes takes seeing a few counsellors before you find someone who feels right to you. I would be happy to refer you to a trusted colleague if that is preferred.

DO YOU OFFER ONLINE BOOKING?

Yes, active clients have access to online booking on Jane App. New and prospective clients are asked to reach out for an initial consultation through the contact form. It is important that we are a good fit before beginning the first session.

DO YOU OFFER EMERGENCY CALLS?

I can not guarantee that I will be available for emergency calls and encourage clients to reach out to distress lines for immediate support.
